WATER

WATER, is a drama that brings Deepa Mehta's "Elemental Trilogy" to a close (the earlier two movies were Fire and Earth). The movie depicts the plight of widows – from the young to the elderly, in fundamentalist Hindu society. Water is seen from a child’s point of view as she experiences life condemmed to the penniless and widows ostracized existence. This movie has been battered, protested, and banned by certain elements of Indian society for what it depicts as it explores the exploitation of women in some societies, and how difficult life can become for those who try to oppose the traditional customs. Starring Lisa Ray, Seema Biswas, Sarala and John Abraham, Water is a must see, especially for the Indian society, more so the MEN-folk…

LIFE IN A …… METRO

One of the recent trends in Bollywood movies is what is seen in LIFE IN A …… METRO – narrating multiple stories in one film. This Anurag Basu direction casts include Shiney Ahuja, Shilpa Shetty, Kay Kay Menon, Sharman Joshi, Gautam Kapoor, Konkona Sen Sharma, Kangna Ranaut, Irrfan Khan, Dharmendra and Nafisa Ali. The characters in the movie are someway or other linked. The complexities in the various relationships of this cast, as well as what one does to achieve their goals is seen to wash away ethics and values – this is very well represented. The music by Pritam is well fused in throughout the movie in a unique manner. Life in a …… Metro is something not to be missed especially by the youth today, and also those trying to climb up the career ladder – are values and ethics worth the sacrifice for a promotion??? Not to be missed!

OMKARA

Interpretation of William Shakespeare’s Othello through Bollywood, is Omkara. Ajay Devgan, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Konkona Sen Sharma, Vivek Oberoi, Naseerudin Shah and Bipasha Basu cast in this Shakespeare’s adaptation directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. Vishal Bhardwaj also composed the music, as well as the background music, while lyrics were by Gulzar. From the sets to the costumes, music and dialogues, this storyline is a definitely worth a watch. Masculine-power, sex, jealousy and betrayal keep you going to the anti-climax finish of this story. A definite watch – Omkara!

BEING CYRUS

First time director Homi Adajania’s direction is BEING CYRUS – an Indian English language film. Starring Salif Ali Khan, Naseeruddin Shah, Dimple Kapadia, Boman Irani, Simone Singh, Tina Sethna, and Manoj Pahwa, Being Cyrus is a psychological drama based on a rather dysfunctional Parsi family. This is Saif Ali Khan’s first attempt in a film in English. This film talks through metaphors. However, it goes about the basic roots in an Indian (& Parsi) family – love, trust, tradition, culture and relationship. A well set-out film that is simple yet with good points to take home.
